Bon Bini Dushi,
Welcome to Curacao!

Welcome to the beautiful island of Curaçao! Curaçao is in the Southern Caribbean Sea and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Great weather, beautiful beaches and colourful architecture characterize the island. This beautiful island has something to offer to everyone! From family getaways to romance; and from adventure to complete relaxation. Are you ready for adventure? Discover Curaçao's beautiful scenery while climbing Christoffel Mountain. Or would you rather immerse yourself in paradise and relax on one of the pearly white beaches? But don’t worry if you are more of a culture buff, you can uncover the rich economic history of Willemstad. The island of Curaçao is incredibly versatile and offers fantastic experiences for anyone!

Weather and climate

Curaçao has a tropical savanna climate. The temperature in Curaçao is fairly constant throughout the year, the difference between the averages per 24 hours is only 3 degrees within one year. The only thing with a significant difference is the rainfall pattern. In Curaçao, we don't really speak of a rainy season, but rather that October, November and December are the wettest months. From February to June it is dry with less than thirty millimetres of precipitation, in the other months the rainfall lies between forty and fifty millimetres.

The good news is that the temperature is nice and warm all year round! With a minimum temperature between 24 and 27 degrees celsius and a maximum temperature between 30 and 33 degrees celsius. Based on weather and climate, this makes Curaçao the ideal destination for your year-round sun vacation!
Curaçao

 Language and Residents

Dutch has long been the official language of Curaçao, but since 2007 Papiamentu has been recognized as the official language as well. The majority of Curaçaoans are Roman Catholics, which results in beautiful churches on the island that are truly worthy of a visit. If there is anything different about Curaçao, it is not the weather or the language, but the attitude of its inhabitants! Here on the island is a wonderful tranquillity, because the inhabitants of Curaçao like to take it easy (traffic excluded). So when you visit Curaçao, do not rush, but let the peace come over you and do especially tránkilo

So are you a nature lover and do you like a little adventure? Then Curaçao is the island for you as there is plenty of beautiful flora and fauna.

Christoffel National Park: Christoffel Park is the largest nature park on the island, it is a whopping 2300 hectares in size. The park is best known as the home of Christoffel Mountain. You can choose to climb this mountain, but there are certainly other options as well! Explore the park for example by car or a hiking trail, any way you will get acquainted with the beautiful nature of Curaçao.

Willemstad - Capital of Curacao

Stroll along the Handelskade
The Handelskade is perhaps the most famous sight in Curaçao! The beautiful pastel-coloured buildings are a true delight to visit. These buildings mark the beginning of Curaçao's economy. As super many goods arrived daily at this quay, traders and shopkeepers established their warehouses and stores here.

Visit the Old Swinging Lady
The Queen Emma Bridge is the only wooden floating bridge in the world! This means you can feel the wave slap under your feet. It opens several times a day for ships to pass through. From here you have a beautiful view of the Handelskade.

Discover the colourful Pietermaai district
Besides the Handelskade being a wonderfully colourful sight, the surrounding neighbourhoods are certainly not inferior! The Pietermaai district is incredibly colourful and houses all kinds of good restaurants and bars. Ideal for ending a day of sightseeing with a delicious dinner!

Experience history at the Kura Hulanda Museum
Are you interested in the history of Curaçao? Then a visit to the Kura Holanda Museum is a must. Here you will learn all about the history of the slave trade, combined with stunning African art.

Parties and Events

That Curaçaoans love to party should come as no surprise! Curacao parties are great, especially because of the Caribbean atmosphere. Throughout the year there are all kinds of small-scale parties, but some events are even bigger than this. If you are on the island during these events, don't miss out on them!

Carnival
This one comes in at number 1 in the list and that is certainly not unjustified. Carnival on Curaçao is one of those events you really should not miss out on. It is celebrated the Caribbean way, with all the sway that goes with it. Merely watching and standing still is not an option, because as soon as the swinging parade passes you can't help but dance along! Carnival in Curaçao often takes place in mid-February.

Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival
Just like the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, this festival also has an edition in Curaçao. This is one of the biggest music festivals in Curaçao and every year the festival has an incredible line-up. This makes the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival definitely worthwhile if you are on the island!

Fuikday
This is without a doubt the favourite day of many young people in Curaçao! Popularly known as Fuik, this is a day when Fuik Bay is transformed into one big party! Filled with boats, jet skis and inflatable attributes, all visitors build a great party! A unique sight, but also a must for all party lovers! Fuikday always takes place on the first Sunday of the new year.

Cultural Heritage and Sights of Curaçao

Curaçao has a rich cultural heritage with visible Dutch and Caribbean influences. The diversity and variety of the island make it well worth a visit! Handelskade: Perhaps the most iconic image of Curaçao: the pastel-tinted facades on St. Anna Bay. This attraction is located in the capital Willemstad and is an absolute must-see on your vacation in Curaçao!

The Old Swinging Lady: The Queen Emma Bridge in Willemstad connects the districts Punda and Otrabanda with each other. The unique thing about this bridge? This is the only wooden floating bridge in the world! This means you feel the surge of the water as you walk across it. Combined with the stunning views of Willemstad Harbour, walking the bridge is a must for your trip to Curaçao!

Klein (Little) Curaçao: Klein Curaçao is one of the most beautiful sights to visit. Located about 25 kilometres off the coast of Curaçao, this uninhabited island features a beautiful white beach with an azure blue sea.

Salt pans: Always wanted to admire bright pink flamingos in the wild? Then Curaçao is the place to be! This colourful sight is located near the village of Sint-Willibrordus, located in the southwest of the island. In fact, the salt pans in Jan Kok Bay are a base for many beautiful flamingos!

Christoffel Mountain: At 372 meters, Christoffel Mountain is the highest mountain on the island. Centrally located on the island, at the top it offers a beautiful view of the entire island of Curaçao. But to witness this view you have to get to the top first! If you start at the Christoffel Park, the hike will take about 3 hours. If you drive up first by car, the hike takes about 1.5 hours.

Mambo Beach: Perhaps the most famous beach in Curaçao is Mambo Beach! This is the only beach with a boulevard, full of cosy stores, restaurants, bars and nightlife. The beach is also very popular among young people because of the cool beach parties!  Are you booking a stay with Visit Villas? Then keep an eye on your inbox!
