“2010 will be a year of transformation” to the world of tourism, UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai said at a press conference that presents the organization’s annual report “World Tourism Barometer.”
It said the growth of the tourism sector back on the last quarter of 2009 to contribute better than expected full year results, led by Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.
“Still, 2009 is regarded as one of the most difficult years that tourism has seen” for a long time and “perhaps one of the most heaviest in the last two decades,” said Rifai.

Observers from the Pacific Islands tourism, Halim Susanto, said local governments should help the capital of small-scale hotels and inns in order to further grow its business.
“Local governments are expected to help small-scale hotels and lodging, such as to convince the banks to lend capital to the managers of the hotel to expand its business,” said Susanto in Pangkalpinang.
